Grants for Wales’ Businesses in Local Lockdown

Grants for Wales’ Businesses in Local Lockdown

With various parts of Wales under local lockdown measures to combat the spread of coronavirus, the Welsh Government has allocated £60 million to support businesses affected by restrictions.

The purpose of the Local Lockdown Business Fund is to support firms with cash flow support, helping them survive the economic consequences of the COVID-19 restrictions put in place in their local area.

The fund consists of two separate grants for businesses in eligible areas of Wales:

Local Lockdown Non Domestic Rate Grant

These grants are for firms liable for paying business rates. A grant of £1,500 will be available for retail, leisure and hospitality businesses occupying properties with a rateable value of between £12,001 and £51,000. A grant of £1,000 will be provided to businesses eligible for Small Business Rates Relief (SBRR) with a rateable value of £12,000 or less.

Local Lockdown Discretionary Grant

A grant of £1,500 is being made available for retail, leisure and hospitality businesses that do not pay business rates. A grant of £1,000 will be available for those not in the retail, leisure and hospitality sector and do not pay business rates.

The scheme will open for applications 28 days after a local authority imposes local restrictions. It will be open for a period of three weeks or until the fund is fully committed. Businesses can apply for a grant by accessing their local authority’s Local Lockdown webpage.

Applications will be dealt with on a first come, first served basis.
