Wales for Africa Grant Accepting Applications

The Wales for Africa grants scheme is a flagship initiative of the Welsh Government’s Wales for Africa programme, which is managed on its behalf by WCVA.

Applications are being accepted for the Winter 2019/20 round which has a total budget of around £150,000.

Main grants of between £5,000 and £20,000 are available for projects starting in May 2020 and completed by 31 January 2021. The funding can be used for both capital and revenue costs.

Projects must address one of the following four themes:

Health – projects that contribute to protecting the mental and physical health and wellbeing of communities in Africa.

Livelong Learning – projects that support individuals or group of young people or adults in Wales and/or Africa to develop new skills and knowledge.

Climate Change and Environment – initiatives that reduce environmental degradation and biodiversity loss in Africa as well as strategic and practical work to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and to protect people from the impacts of climate change on food supplies, water availability or safety

Sustainable livelihoods – initiatives that seek to promote realistic and sustainable livelihood opportunities in Wales and Africa, ensuring that marginalized individuals are included in grassroots economic and social development.

Commenting on the scheme, Minister for International Relations and Welsh Language Eluned Morgan said:

“Our Wales for Africa grants programme has already helped to improve the lives of thousands of people across Africa and played an important role in strengthening the relationships we have with this beautiful and diverse continent. I encourage community groups and organisations from across Wales to get involved in what is an important and truly life-changing programme.”

The deadline for applications is 11 March 2020 (23:59).
