Shared Care Scotland’s Creative Breaks Programme Reopens for 2023

Third-sector organisations and registered charities in Scotland can apply for funding to develop and deliver short breaks for the benefit of carers and those they care for.

Shared Care Scotland is offering grants of up to £35,000 (up to £10,000 for unincorporated organisations) to develop and deliver short breaks projects and services for carers of adults (aged 21 and over), young carers (caring for children or adults) and the people they care for.

Through the Creative Breaks Programme, a total budget of £1.1 million for 2023-24 is available to support organisations providing a wide range of different short break activities. This includes breaks away (ie, overnight stays, residential breaks), days out, and/or shorter sessions (ie, regular activities).

Activities must be designed to enable carers to have a life outside or alongside their caring role and to support their health and well-being. Short breaks should also benefit the cared-for person and others (eg, family members) and help sustain the caring relationship.

Grants can be used to pay for costs directly related to projects taking place between 1 October 2023 and 30 September 2024.

Details about the following support can be found on the Shared Care website:

  • Zoom support sessions (12 April, 24 April, and 18 May).
  • Call-in sessions (21 April, 27 April, and 23 May).

Applications are welcome for existing projects and activities that are tried and tested, and for new projects and activities.

The deadline for grant applications is 25 May 2023.
