New Fund for Young Filmmakers from Minority Backgrounds

SKIP/INTRO is a new film commissioning programme which will support emerging moving-image artists through the challenges of the present day. The scheme provides a platform for young filmmakers to look beyond the horizon and showcase something about the world at large.

Three new moving image works from artist-filmmakers aged 18-25 in England will be commissioned. The programme will actively support those from under-represented backgrounds, and includes a specific commitment:

To commissioning at least one black artist.

That at least one of the commissioned artists will be based outside of London and the South East of England.

The scheme will support a variety of artistic practices that are self-sufficient, that do not require substantial external production support via crew, cast, specific equipment, etc, while still offering production and curatorial support.

The commissioned artists will each receive:

A £1,500 fee/budget.

£2,000 additional production support.

Curatorial support across a two-month period.

Online distribution.

The final works will be streamed through the Satellite Films’ digital channels and through an online broadcast partner.

The deadline for applications to be submitted is 20 July 2020 (12:00 BST).
