Net Zero Technology Centre Announces Innovation Funding Competition

The Net Zero Technology Centre has unveiled a funding competition for low carbon innovation.

Funding is available to enterprises in the UK and worldwide for projects to develop and test low carbon technologies that will support the transition towards net zero.

The Net Zero Technology Centre’s 2022 innovation funding competition has a total value of £10 million, of which £7 million will be made available in the first application round.

Applicants may request grants of between £50,000 and £1 million.

The following technology project areas have been identified for the first application round:

  • Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).
  • Hydrogen and clean fuels.
  • Renewables and energy storage.
  • Zero emissions power.
  • Venting and flaring.
  • Integrity management – well integrity.​​
  • Late life and decommissioning.
  • Integrity management – CUI.

Projects must support the transition towards net zero with an obligation of trialling and deploying technology within the UK continental shelf. Projects are expected to start by 1 October 2022 and end by 30 September 2024 and last up to 24 months.

As well as funding, projects will also gain access to data facilities and technical expertise from industry.

The competition will open for the first application round on 16 March 2022 and close on 29 April 2022.
