Nesta Announces £5m Adult Learning Technology Innovation Fund
The upcoming Adult Learning Technology Innovation Fund (ALTIF) will support the development of innovative services to help people navigate the changing labour market and learn the skills they need to find stable and rewarding work.
Through the scheme, UK-based technology companies will be encouraged to develop cutting-edge solutions, utilising AI and automation, to improve the quality of online learning for adults. The programme will provide funding and expertise to incentivise tech firms to harness technologies to develop bespoke, flexible, inclusive and engaging online training opportunities to support more people into skilled employment.
Technologies developed under the Fund will help inform the Government’s National Retraining Scheme, which aims to upskill individuals in the UK who are most at risk of redundancy with the knowledge they need to progress in work, secure better employment, and redirect their careers.
Through the programme, Nesta wishes to encourage the application of new technologies and methods that improve the accuracy, effectiveness and reach of careers guidance and enhance the impact of training.
Vicki Sellick, Executive Director of Programmes at Nesta said:
“Technology, such as AI, has huge potential to provide insights on local labour markets and give workers appropriate advice, guidance and learning opportunities.
“We’re delighted to be adding resources from our own endowment to partner with DfE to ensure technology is being used to support workers to upskill and re-skill for the jobs of the future.”
Education Secretary Damian Hinds said:
“This is an exceptional opportunity for technology firms to work with Government to put their ideas into action to help develop pioneering online training opportunities for adults.”
The Fund is yet to open. Further details will be provided when they become available.
