National Lottery Grants for Heritage now Offering up to £10m (UK)
Funding to support the heritage sector to strengthen its recovery from the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the current cost-of-living crisis across the UK.
As part of its new 10-year strategy, Heritage 2033, the National Lottery Grants for Heritage programme is doubling its upper limit for applications from £5 million to £10 million – its first increase in twenty years – to offset some pressures of inflation and the cost-of-living crisis.
Speaking on the increase, Eilish McGuinness, Chief Executive of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, said:
“Increasing our grants to £10 million means we can support projects which have greater scale and reach, and deliver our vision for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone’s future.
We may also consider investing above this threshold for truly exceptional heritage projects.”
The application and decision process will remain the same as under the previous threshold, though applicants for large-scale projects will also be asked to consider the new Heritage 2033 investment principles:
- Saving heritage
- Protecting the environment
- Inclusion, access and participation
- Organisational sustainability
Groups will be required to submit a supporting document of 500 words or less outlining how their project will respond to all four principles.

The next deadline for projects over £250,000 is 17 August 2023.
