Funding to Encourage Blood and Organ Donation among BAME Communities

The Community Investment Scheme is part of NHS Blood and Transplant’s commitment to build support for donation amongst Black, Asian, mixed heritage and minority ethnic communities.

The funding is for community and faith/beliefs organisations to drive awareness, understanding and behaviour change. Trusted local organisations can be effective at achieving these goals due to their specialist knowledge, understanding and footprint in the community.

Now in its third round, the scheme is broadening its scope to cover a range of health inequalities. Previously, the scheme focused solely on organ donation after death.

This year, the scheme is seeking applications across three areas of activity:

Projects engaging Black, Asian, mixed heritage and minority ethnic communities in deceased organ donation.

Projects engaging Black African and/or Black Caribbean communities in blood donation.

Projects covering a combination of blood donation and deceased organ donation.

In addition, the Community Engagement Leads initiative is a new arm of the Community Investment Scheme which will fund strategic location-based partners to lead on engaging local networks in blood and deceased organ donation.

Registered charities, companies limited, charitable incorporated organisations, community interest companies and unincorporated groups may apply.

A total of £600,000 is available. Groups can apply for grants of:

Up to £10,000 – for organisations looking to deliver a project focusing on blood and/or organ donation.

Between £10,001 and £20,000 – for organisations looking to deliver a project focused on blood donation or a project focused on both blood and organ donation.

Set amount of £20,000 – for organisations that can create grassroots networks to promote organ and blood donation in partnership with NHSBT.

Applications will be accepted until 2 December 2020 (5pm).
