Funding for Scotland’s Island Communities

A new £2 million fund has opened for the island communities of Scotland.

Businesses and community groups located across Scotland’s inhabited islands are invited to apply for grants of up to £150,000 for projects focused on supporting sustainable island economies and the journey towards net zero.

The following criteria apply:

  • Applicants must have a clear focus on developing sustainable economic activities on islands, through job creation, sustainable employment and the safeguarding of jobs
  • A strong emphasis is required on how projects will contribute to Scotland’s fair and just transition to net zero and to climate resilient living on islands, while also supporting COVID-19 recovery and increased community resilience

Commenting on the new Island Communities Fund, the Scottish Government’s Islands Secretary Mairi Gougeon said:

“Each of our islands are unique, so I look forward to seeing the development of innovative ICF projects that recognise the particular and distinct challenges facing individual communities. The ICF will help our islands to thrive through community-led initiatives that contribute to our ongoing population priorities.”

Projects must be completed by 31 March 2022.

The deadline for applications is 12:00 BST on 16 July 2021.
