Funding for Community Growing Projects in Central Scotland

Constituted and not-for-profit organisations, including community groups, charities, SCIOs, social enterprises and local authorities can apply for a portion of the £100,000 Central Scotland Green Network – Growing Food Together Fund to support projects that seek to promote and increase community growing within the Central Scotland Green Network Trust (CSGNT) area.

The funding is for projects/activities to be delivered from August 2020 until 31 March 2021 that seek to promote and increase community growing within the CSGN area. These must be able to be delivered within the guidelines from Scottish Government on coronavirus/COVID-19 restrictions.

Projects could include elements of growing projects that involve:

The installation of physical infrastructure.

Sourcing materials and equipment in preparation for the 2021 growing season.

Soil analysis testing.

Site feasibility studies or design work.

Non-site based projects such as the development and delivery of learning exchange programmes, skills and training and events that seek to increase awareness and interest in local community growing opportunities.

Commenting on the new funding, Rural Affairs Minister Mairi Gougeon said:

“The Growing Food Together Fund helps local communities enjoy the benefits of growing fruit and vegetables and supports a diverse range of projects which deliver social, community, health and environmental benefits.

“Now more than ever we are all increasingly aware of the importance of having access to growing and greenspaces as well as the physical and mental benefits of being outside and the need to recover from COVID-19 in a way that is inclusive and sustainable.

“This funding is a fantastic opportunity for local residents – especially younger people – to get involved in community growing spaces and learn about the value of fresh, locally-grown food.”

The deadline for applications is 5pm on 24 July 2020.
