Funding Boost for Biodiversity Projects in Scotland

A second round of funding will support projects that are:

Ambitious and will make a demonstrable, and measurable, impact.

Seek to address the drivers of biodiversity change with action preferably focused on causes rather than symptoms.

Make connections on the ground and link actions and/ or projects, increasing resilience in those habitats and species most at risk.

It is anticipated that a smaller number of larger funding awards will be made to reflect the scale of action needed to make a difference. Grants will be in the region of £100,000 to £200,000 for projects starting from 1 April 2020, with all projects and activities completed by 31 March 2021.

Applications will be accepted from:

Constituted organisations

Registered charities and trusts

Communities

Local authorities and other public sector organisations

Private individuals and companies – where public benefit will outweigh private gain

Partnerships and organisations working collaboratively with others.

Commenting, Scottish Natural Heritage Chief Executive Francesca Osowska said:

“People know that climate change is a big issue but not as many know that biodiversity loss is also a global and generational threat to human well-being.

“But it’s not just about conservation – enriching our nature is also part of the solution to the climate emergency too.

“Nature is at the heart of what we do, and we will continue to deliver the transformational change needed to bring a nature-rich future for Scotland.”

The deadline for applications is midnight on 3 February 2020.
