Creative Wales Music Capital Fund Invites Applications from Music Venue Operators

Funding is available to small and medium-sized operators of music venues in Wales to improve and increase their commercial outlook and sustainability.

A new round of the Music Capital Fund (MCF), administered by Creative Wales on behalf of Welsh Government, is inviting applications from small and medium-sized venue operators to improve and increase their commercial outlook and sustainability and, as a result, contribute to the development and growth of the music industry in Wales.

Applicants will need to demonstrate that their main function is to programme, record or be used for the rehearsal of original music, host and/or promote live music events of a commercial nature.

The music being hosted, recorded, rehearsed or promoted from the business can be from the full spectrum of contemporary popular music genres (electronic; hip-hop; indie and alternative; metal and punk; pop; rock; etc).

The funding is used to support projects of the following types:

  • Building property and structural improvements – projects to enhance venue accessibility, soundproof performance areas, modernise building décor, make significant improvements to facilities, install or upgrade artists’ green rooms, or carry out necessary repairs and maintenance both internally and externally to restore and preserve the building’s condition and significance.
  • Complementary audience/user experience improvements – projects to improve business premises to enhance the experiences of paid audiences and users of the venue, studio or rehearsal space, including installing new lighting, replacing flooring, and upgrading outdated equipment or PA systems.

Grants of between £25,000 and £50,000 are available. Applicants must ensure that they will be able to deliver their project before 31 August 2024.

The deadline for applications is 14 July 2023 (12:00 BST).
