£20m Fund to Improve Accessibility of Rail Stations

Launched in 2006, the Access for All fund is a Government initiative to help improve the accessibility of Great Britain’s railways.

The Mid-Tier funding programme is specifically aimed at improving railway stations to enable people with a disability to use the rail network more freely.

This fund is open for applications from stations in need of accessibility improvements, leading to small-scale enhancements, for example:

tactile paving

handrails

Harrington Humps, which increase platform heights.

Applications are sought from the rail industry including Network Rail, and from other transport organisations that the Department for Transport (DfT) have written to directly.

The DfT would also welcome applications from local authorities and other third parties engaged with their local railway stations, but it is expected that these schemes have written support of the Local Delivery Group.

A total of £20 million is available for this funding round and grants of £1 million are available per project.

The deadline for applications is 18 October 2019.
