Emergency Funding for Northern Ireland’s Artists During COVID-19 Crisis

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland has opened a funding programme to support artists and performers during the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. The Artists Emergency Programme, worth £500,000, offers freelance artists, creative practitioners and performers the opportunity to apply for grants of up to £5,000 each.

The scheme provides artists with financial support and employment at a time when the arts sector has been severely impacted under quarantine conditions – venues and galleries have closed, festivals and events are cancelled and live audiences have disappeared.

Applicants can request financial support for initiation, development and delivery costs incurred during the period of the project, including their own creative time. Disabled artists can include support worker costs.

The programme is one element of an overall £1.5 million funding package to support the arts and wider culture sectors during the current pandemic. Other measures will be rolled out to support arts organisations, libraries and museums in the coming weeks, including a £1 million ‘Creative Support Fund’.

This is a rolling programme which will remain open until further notice, for proposals ending March 2021.
