Launch of £1 Billion Automotive Transformation Fund

The Automotive Transformation Fund (ATF) aims to establish and support industrialisation of a high-value, competitive and sustainable electrified automotive supply chain in the UK. The programme offers funding for both industrial research and capital projects.

This is an expression of interest (EoI) competition, administered by Innovate UK (IUK). If an application is successful, applicants will be invited to apply to one of the full stage competition strands: Research and development (R&D); and Capital investment. If a project includes both R&D and capital investment, applicants will have to apply for both full stage competitions.

UK registered businesses can apply for a share of up to £1 billion to fund innovation projects in this competition. Total eligible project costs and project duration must be appropriate and in proportion to the planned objectives. Projects can focus on one or more of the following:

Batteries

Motors and drives

Power electronics

Fuel cell

Recycling

The competition is open to single applicants and collaborations. To lead a project or work alone, the organisation must be a UK registered business of any size, carrying out its project work in the UK. To collaborate with the lead organisation, the applicant must be a UK registered business, academic institution, research and technology organisation (RTO), charity or public sector organisation There are no restrictions on the number of applications a business or RTO can submit.
