Amazon Launches £1.6 Billion Climate Pledge Fund

The Amazon Climate Pledge Fund has been established to invest in companies building sustainable products, services and technologies to decarbonise the economy and protect the planet.

This dedicated venture investment scheme aims to help Amazon and other companies meet The Climate Pledge—a commitment to be net zero carbon by 2040. It will back visionary companies whose products and services will facilitate the transition to a zero carbon economy.

Amazon will invest at least $2 billion (£1.6 billion) in smaller firms creating technologies or services aimed at reducing carbon emissions to net-zero. Levels of investment for individual projects have not been specified.

Companies from around the world, of all sizes and stages of development, will be considered, from pre-product start-ups to well-established enterprises. Each prospective investment will be judged on its potential to accelerate the path to zero carbon and help protect the planet for future generations.

The fund is expected to invest in multiple industries, including transportation and logistics, energy generation, storage and utilisation, manufacturing and materials, the circular economy, and food and agriculture.

Amazon is accepting indications of interest now.
